I am glad this topic came up for Illustration Friday as I have been thinking about my goals for 2009. This year I resolve to:
1. Become a member of SCBWI
2. Join an online critique group
3. Increase my promotions for the year

I love penguins - how adorable!
I joined SCBWI a number of years ago, and I've been going to all the regional conferences within 6 hours driving of me that have an Art Director giving portfolio critiques. That has been the best thing for improving my portfolio! Our Indiana SCBWI is in the process of planning a picture book conference in Oct '09 in Indianapolis with portfolio critiques by an Art Director. You're welcome to come. I'm sure MI will have events too.
How deLIGHTful! These penguins sure know how to have fun. Really adorable, and I like the light trees in the background, too.
